♦ Words of My Teacher—My Time with Hawayo Takata
March 14, New York City, 7 p.m.
Contact: Pamela Miles, pmiles@ReikiInMedicine.org
Hawayo Takata brought Reiki to the Hawaii from Japan in the 1930s. My husband Paul and I learned Reiki from her in 1978. After our first class, we organized classes for her and she stayed in our San Franciso home. We were both inspired by her experience and commitment to Reiki as a healing art. I’ll share stories of our time with her and how Mrs. Takata’s embodiment of Reiki continues to illuminate my practice. Cost: $37 until 1 March, $47 after 1 March.

♦ Practice! Practice! Practice!—Exploring the Value of Self-treatment
March 18, 2012, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., suburban Baltimore, MD, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
Self-treatment is at the heart of Reiki practice. Asked if her students learned to heal themselves, Hawayo Takata replied, “That’s number one. If they can’t do that, what is the good.”
Reflecting on the self-treatment experience can bring greater awareness to this core aspect of our practice. In this day-long exploration we’ll take time to look at our personal and collective experience of self-treatment: what we’ve learned, how we benefit, and how self-treatment informs our understanding of Reiki. Whether we treat ourselves every day or struggle to find the time, we can all benefit from this exploration. Cost: $60 until 1 March; $75 after 1 March.
